Accessibility statement
This statement covers alokjain.dev, including the blog, newsletter, work, résumé and the books published here.
My commitment
Accessibility is part of the work I do for clients, and I hold my own website to the same standard. I want it to be readable and usable by everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader or magnifier, people who enlarge text, and people who prefer reduced motion.
Conformance status
The target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. The site is partially conformant: most of it meets the standard, and the parts that don’t yet are listed under known limitations below.
What the site does
- Structure: one main heading per page, a logical heading order, page landmarks, breadcrumbs on articles and case studies, and a “Skip to content” link.
- Keyboard: the menu, links, buttons, project filters and code examples can all be used with a keyboard, with a visible focus outline. Code examples that scroll sideways can be focused and scrolled with the arrow keys.
- Colour and contrast: text meets the 4.5:1 minimum contrast ratio in both light and dark mode, and links in text are underlined rather than shown by colour alone.
- Zoom and small screens: pages reflow down to a width of 320 pixels without sideways scrolling.
- Your settings: the site follows your device’s light or dark setting (or the switch in the header), and respects reduced-motion and high-contrast settings.
- Images and links: images have text descriptions, decorative images are hidden from screen readers, and links that open in a new tab say so.
Known limitations
- Book pages: on the book library, book and chapter pages, the site header and footer are not yet marked as page landmarks. Everything on these pages still works; a fix is ready and will be released with the next update of the book plugin.
- Older content: some older posts and newsletter issues may still have images without full descriptions. I fix these as I find them.
- Linked websites: links to other sites, such as LinkedIn, GitHub and WordPress.org, lead to content outside the scope of this statement.
Compatibility
The site is built on WordPress with a custom block theme, using standard semantic HTML and CSS. It is designed for current versions of the major browsers and for assistive technologies that work with them. Older browsers such as Internet Explorer are not supported.
Feedback and contact
If something on this site is hard to use, or you can’t use it at all, please tell me. It helps to include the page address, what you were trying to do, what happened, and, if you like, the browser or assistive technology you were using.

How this statement was prepared
- Basis: a self-assessment against WCAG 2.2 level AA. The site has not been independently audited.
- Testing: automated checks with axe-core on every type of page (home, about, work, case studies, résumé, plugins, newsletter, contact, blog, posts, books, chapters, search and the error page) in light and dark mode at desktop and phone widths, a reflow check at 320 pixels, and keyboard testing.
- Fixes from this review: code examples that scroll sideways became keyboard-accessible, code line numbers and the “Coming soon” book label got stronger contrast, and links in the résumé’s dark card are now underlined.
- Review cycle: at least once a year, and whenever the design changes.
- Dates: prepared and last reviewed on 14 October 2026.
