BookTravelGetRewards

A travel booking and rewards website for Broker IDX Sites, Inc., built from scratch. I turned the Figma designs into a working React frontend with Material UI and React Query, connected to the backend team’s APIs.

The project

BookTravelGetRewards is a travel booking website where people search for and book travel and earn rewards on their bookings. It was a new product, built from scratch with no previous site to replace.

Broker IDX Sites, Inc. brought me in as the frontend developer. The designs came from Figma and the data came from APIs written by the client’s backend developers. My job was to turn the two into a working website.

From Figma to React

I built the frontend in React on top of Material UI, styling its components to match the Figma designs rather than the library’s default look. Search forms, date pickers, filters and result cards all needed to follow the design closely while still behaving the way people expect from a booking site.

Working with live data

Almost everything on a booking site depends on data from the server: availability, prices, bookings and reward balances. I connected the frontend to the backend team’s APIs and used React Query to fetch, cache and refresh that data, so booking and reward updates show up without people having to reload the page.

Working closely with the backend developers, I implemented each API as it became available and kept the interface in step as the product grew.

A long-term engagement

I worked on the project for more than four years, from July 2020 to February 2025, building the frontend from the first screens and then extending it as new features were added.
