What I look at
Finding what actually slows the site down.
- Caching and how pages are served.
- Images: sizes, modern formats and lazy loading.
- Scripts and styles: what loads on each page, and when.
- Plugins and theme code that add weight or slow database queries.
How it works
Measured before and after.
I measure the site first, fix the biggest problems on a staging copy, then measure again so you can see what changed.
From the newsletter
Small changes add up.
Some of the fixes are small and specific, like deferring scripts with wp_enqueue_script() or caching a slow WP_Query with a transient, both from my WP Snippets newsletter.
Questions
Common questions
Do we need a new website to make it faster?
Usually not. Most speed problems can be fixed in the existing site; a rebuild only makes sense when the theme or setup itself is the problem.
Will the changes affect how the site looks?
No. The work happens on a staging copy first, so you can check that everything looks and works the same before it goes live.
How do you charge?
Fixed price or hourly, depending on your requirements and budget. A clearly defined project can have a fixed price; ongoing or open-ended work suits an hourly rate.
How do we keep in touch?
Whichever suits you: email, Skype, Upwork or another tool your team already uses.
